What makes eNest Egg a wonderful tool for teaching
college students, of every level, about finance?

You hear and you forget.
You see and you remember.
You do and you understand.

– Confucius, 480 BC

These three simple sentences express the exponential difference offered by eNest Egg – you DO.

The impact of experiential learning is undeniable. For example, a study conducted by Accenture Ltd. suggests that those who learn by doing are able to retain 75% of the information taught, compared with a 5% retention rate from hearing a lecture or 10% from reading the material.

That is the tremendous advantage offered by eNest Egg, students learn by doing.

Why do professors love eNest Egg?

  • eNest Egg is a turn-key program. We have made it amazingly simple for professors to use. From implementation to student performance evaluation, we’ve automated the entire process.
  • eNest Egg is education with impact. Students are able to complete these simulations independently, progressing at their own pace. eNest Egg is completely self-contained and self-directed. As students play, they receive a constant stream of automated assistance and performance assessments. This maximizes eNest Egg’s impact on players.
  • eNest Egg is far more than just another day trading simulation. eNest Egg places our core focus on long-term asset allocation. While students are able to use eNest Egg to test any investment strategy, they will consistently achieve the highest scores by following well reasoned financial plans.
  • eNest Egg is comprehensive. Students will learn to balance a wide portfolio of financial instruments, accounts, and insurance products. Students will accomplish this while facing fluctuating financial markets, a stream of market performance data, news of major world events, and even personal life events.
  • eNest Egg is like the real world. All market metrics and performance data used in eNest Egg simulations are closely based on actual financial market history. With each unit, students will experience a real era of market history. The challenge is, we don’t tell them what period of market history they’re facing, until each simulation ends.

Why do students love eNest Egg?

  • eNest Egg is engaging. Even the most hard-to-reach students will appreciate the chance to apply what they are studying. We strive to make the sometimes dry material from lectures and textbooks come to life.
  • eNest Egg moves quickly. While each unit simulates 15 to 40 years of a family’s financial life, units can be completed in just minutes. Better still, eNest Egg requires very little of your valuable class time. Students can complete our simulations independently.
  • eNest Egg is flexible. It can be used by beginners, and yet, still challenge your most advanced students. eNest Egg should be experienced by both business majors, and non-majors alike. Students can play eNest Egg on their favorite laptop, tablet or smart phone.
  • eNest Egg is affordable.  Access to eNest Egg is free for professors and educators. Student subscriptions are priced at $19.95 per student, per semester.  Better still, eNestEgg.Org is currently offering additional discounts to bring the price down even further.

How eNest Egg Works

In eNest Egg, each player takes on the role of a professional financial planner. At the beginning of each unit, players are introduced to a new family of clients. Each family brings with them their own set of assets, incoming cash flow, debts, and long-term financial goals. Players must then ensure that their clients achieve these goals by investing wisely in stock funds, bond funds, and more. Players must also help their clients pay off existing debt, insure themselves against risk, and negotiate the best mortgage for their needs.

Each unit simulates 15 to 30 years, but each unit takes only minutes to complete. Throughout each round markets rise and fall, realistic news and life events can impact financial plans, all just as in real life. Players are assisted by a constant stream of financial market data, and a series of popup screens with helpful tips on how to invest wisely.

At the end of each round, eNest Egg automatically provides detailed performance analysis and assessment. This data is immediately available both to the player, and to their professor or teacher. From implementation to student performance evaluation, the entire process has been designed to be fast and easy to use.

What follows here are a series of short videos, each detailing one aspect of eNest Egg and how it works. Please feel free to select the videos that cover topics which interest you the most. If you have any additional questions for us, please take a moment to register below.

How a Game Starts:
Getting started in eNest Egg is easy. In this video, you will see how players meet a client, receive the client’s goals, and make their first moves.
Investing Cash Flow:
This video will introduce you to eNest Egg’s sliders and how these sliders are used, in this case, to invest a client’s cash flow.
Investing Assets:
Intelligent asset allocation is the core lesson that students learn while playing eNest Egg. This short video introduces the asset allocation sliders.
How a Game Ends:
At the end of each simulation, players receive overall scores, and the option to view detailed performance analysis. Players are easily able to track where they made intelligent moves, and where they made errors. In this video, you will see what information is provided to students after each game.
Data Available in eNest Egg:
eNest Egg is very realistic. All market performance, and market indicators, are closely based on actual historic market data. This video talks about the many kinds of information available to players throughout each game. Your students will learn which metrics to rely upon, and how to make informed and intelligent decisions.
Credit Card Debt:
As you know, the majority of your students will, upon graduation, enter the working world carrying substantial levels of debt. eNest Egg’s simulated clients also often carry debt. Players learn that while debt should be addressed early, and aggressively, in financial planning, debt must not be seen as a life sentence.
Home and Auto Insurance:
In our effort to simulate a complete picture of a family’s financial life, eNest Egg simulations include major life events. Clients can be injured, promoted, have kids, wreck their car, and even die. Players learn to survive, and even to prosper, in the face of triumphs or tragedies. This brief video introduces the first two kinds of insurance available in eNest Egg.
Term Life, Disability, and Health Insurance:
Players learn to protect not only their clients’ property, but also to protect their assets and future income. More experienced players will also learn not to purchase unnecessarily high levels of coverage, and will learn to drop their coverage when they are wealthy enough to self-insure.
Negotiating a Mortgage:
What happens when banks make risky mortgage loans to consumers? What happens when consumers don’t fully understand their mortgages, and the risks involved with the loans that they are taking? eNest Egg simulates a variety of mortgage options, so that players will be able to avoid the pitfalls of ill-considered mortgages. They will learn to make informed decisions, and make the mortgage work within the framework of a larger financial plan.
